Calanoid copepods are the most abundant group of animals on the planet. You can find them almost everywhere. Many species are grazers, feeding on algae, though they can be predators as well. Copepod larval stages are called nauplius. Calanoid copepods generally have long antennules covered in sensitive hairs to detect predators and food. Relative to body size copepods are the fastest animals alive.
